'It sounds f***ing horrific!: Liam Gallagher apologises to fans before walking off stage after only FOUR songs at Lollapalooza festival because of ongoing chest infection

Liam Gallagher was only able to perform four songs from his one hour set at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chile.

Despite only just starting his set on Sunday, the rocker, 45, was forced to walk off stage as he apologised to fans because his performance was 'f***ing horrific'.

Before leaving, the former Oasis frontman sang his songs Rock 'n' Roll Star, Morning Glory, Greedy Soul and Wall Of Glass.

At the end of Wall of Glass, the singer stopped what he was doing and said: 'I am f***ing going man, my voice is absolutely smashed.

'I would love to stand here all night screaming out for you, but it sounds f***ing horrific. So I am sorry, but I cannot sing the tunes,' he said before adding 'It's a waste of time,' he continued.

Although he tried to explain his decision to leave, the South American fans of the As You Were songwriter didn't quite understand him and continued to loudly cheer before the singer stepped off the stage.

The Wonderwall singer then shrugged, and made apologetic gestures to the crowd before leaving.

Liam's bandmates seemed to be equally as confused as the crowd, as they stood and watched the singer walk away before realising they had to follow suit.

Given he was the second-to-last act to perform, the fans then had to wait for The Killers' headline set which didn't start until 10pm.

Heading to his social media page to reach out to fans, Liam apologised and explained: 'Due to an ongoing chest infection, we had to cut the show short.'

The official statement continued: 'Liam was diagnosed with a sinus, ear and nose infection after a European show a few weeks ago which has led to a chest infection.

'He has been continuing to perform and trying to push through it, but unfortunately he was finding it hard to breathe on stage and was not able to continue the set.

'Liam is severely disappointed and upset that he could not finish the show and wants to apologise to everyone who came out to see him.'

The singer ended the apologetic note to his fans with a promise 'to reschedule a gig in Santiago as soon as possible', so fans will have to wait to see when that'll happen.

Making amends: In an official statement, Liam apologised and explained: 'Due to an ongoing chest infection, we had to cut the show short' before adding he'd 'reschedule a gig in Santiago'
