San Diego, CA., July 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- It is that time of year when it is commonplace to see  Klingons, Stormtroopers, super heroes and zombies walking together under the Gaslamp Quarter Archway. The Gaslamp Quarter’s geekdom will unite to welcome the return of Comic-Con International (Comic-Con) to the San Diego Convention Center from July 19 – 22, 2018 (with Preview Night on July 18th). “The Gaslamp merchants are so excited that a convention that drew only 300 guests in 1970 now draws 100s of thousands essentially, making the model for every comic book convention in the world to follow.” Said Executive Director of the Gaslamp Quarter Association Michael Trimble.

As San Diego’s largest convention, Comic-Con has truly been embraced by the community – and not just in terms of comics and pop culture, but also by local businesses and residents. The Gaslamp Quarter and its businesses play host to a number of public and private off-site events and promotions for Comic-Con. Additionally, many Gaslamp Quarter restaurants, retailers and entertainment venues offer specials and deals throughout the week, making the district an ideal spot to partake in the festivities with or without a Comic-Con badge.

The Gaslamp Quarter Association (GQA) has compiled  information on Comic-Con related specials, events and promotions that GQA member businesses are offering, which is posted on Gaslamp.org at https://www.gaslamp.org/2018/07/no-badge-required-comic-con-events-specials-gaslamp-quarter/ Comic-Con attendees and San Diego locals alike can access tips on parking, an information for guests to use as a mobile guide to find quick service dining locations and public off-site special events during Comic-Con. The GQA also invites visitors to engage with the Gaslamp Quarter via social media for the latest updates from Comic-Con’s very own front lawn. Find the Gaslamp Quarter on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/gaslampquarter/, Instagram at http://www.instagram/GaslampQuarter, #GaslampQuarter #Rabbitville and on Twitter at http://twitter.com/GaslampQuarter.

Enjoy food and drink specials on a patio while watching superheroes in cosplay stroll by.  Participate in costume contests, activations, and enter to win give aways!  All activities are listed on gaslamp.org.  "There are 100s of things to choose from including the 7 foot tall Rabbits of Rabbitville sprinkled around the neighborhood, at the Hilton Gaslamp, The Hard Rock Hotel, The Pendry Hotel, Ghirardelli, and inside the convention at the Warner Bros Booth." Said Trimble, who also reminded guests to look up on Fifth Ave. between Island and G Street starting tomorrow evening at 8pm on the hour every hour for a pulsating out of this world lightshow!
