Aston Villa defender Ahmed Elmohamady believes Mohamed Salah’s spell at Chelsea served him well when he pitched up at Liverpool this summer.

Salah’s goal against Porto in the Reds’ 5-0 win at Porto in the Champions League midweek was his 30th of the season in all competitions and he is very much in the running for the Player of the Year award at the end of the campaign.

This all comes after a very unsuccessful stint at Chelsea between 2014 and 2016.

Yet his compatriot Elmohamady, who signed for Villa in the summer from Hull City, thinks that Salah has learned from his previous experience - and that he should remain at Anfield, amid inevitable speculation.

“His spell with Chelsea helped him a lot,” he told Egyptian website KingFut .

“He is a source of happiness and joy to us, in my opinion, I think he should stay at Liverpool.

“He’s the club’s superstar, but if he wants to leave he should leave after spending another season at Liverpool at least.”

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is in line for a new bumper contract, according to the Sunday People.

Mane fired a hat-trick as the Reds ran riot and thrashed Porto 5-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie with the Portuguese giants midweek.

While Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah have been grabbing the headlines this campaign, Mane has still managed to score 14 times.

Now two years into a deal that runs until 2021, the attacker looks set to be offered a new-and-improved deal at Anfield.

Mane, 25, is considered a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, and so to avoid as best they can a situation where one of Europe’s elite come calling - as they have done for Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez in the past - they’re looking to tie Mane down on fresh terms.

Rubin Kazan forward Sardar Azmoun has prompted speculation on social media by posting a picture of himself and Liverpool chief Jurgen Klopp on Instagram.

Azmoun has previously been branded the 'Iranian Messi' and was reportedly a target for Liverpool last year.

The 23-year-old forward claimed Liverpool were interested in him last January as the Reds weighed up their options with Sadio Mane at the Africa Cup of Nations, reports the Liverpool Echo.

“There were talks of Liverpool having expressed an interest in me during the past winter transfer window,” he said in March last year.

“However, I did not feel the time to move was right.

"I would have ended up playing a few games and then spent a great deal of time on the bench as Liverpool were only looking to fill a void for a particular part of their season."

However, despite claiming to have turned down the advances of Liverpool, it would appear Azmoun still harbours an admiration for Klopp after posting this picture on to his Instagram account on Friday evening.

Azmoun simply captioned the picture: "the best" but it is unclear how recent the meeting between the pair was.

There is no clear suggestion that the meet was part of any transfer-related activity for Liverpool, with Azmoun clearly kitted out in his Rubin Kazan tracksuit.

However, with Klopp pictured wearing Liverpool's 2017-18 Presentation Suit, the meeting is certainly more recent than when the Reds were initially linked with Azmoun 13 months ago.
