A few weeks after being introduced as recipients of the Military Child of the Year award, two high school students from Eastern North Carolina are in the nation's capital to accept their honors.
Isabella Smith and Emily Baldeosingh, the award winners, are spending several days in Washington, D.C., where they are being recognized for their achievements.
"Being able to share my story...I think that's meant a lot to me," said Smith and Baldeosingh.
"The people are so nice here and there's so much history and just awesome experiences that we'd never get if we didn't win Military Child of the Year," they added.
Smith, who represents the Marine Corps, attends school in Swansboro, while Baldeosingh, representing the National Guard, is a student in Havelock.
