Henderson County school officials and law enforcement are warning parents and guardians of an activity they say poses "potential safety risks."

A message to families from Henderson County Public Schools Superintendent Mark Garrett, shared by the county sheriff's office on Facebook, highlighted an activity that some students have been participating in called "Senior Assassin."

The game reportedly encourages players to surprise one another by shooting a water gun at them.

"Though this may seem harmless on the surface, while in possession of an item resembling a firearm, and when conducted either in the dark, in residential neighborhoods or on active roadways, the opportunity for mistaken identity and possible tragic outcomes is very real," the message from the school system explains.

Superintendent Garrett said while this game is not endorsed by the school district, they still wanted to alert families about the potential risks involved.

"We encourage parents to discuss this with your students and encourage them to celebrate the Class of 2024 in other ways," the superintendent's message said.

Other media outlets across the country, including Sinclair sister station WHPin Pennsylvania, have reported that law enforcement are sounding the alarm about the game that's been trending on social media.
