TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas lawmakers are sharing their thoughts following the recent announcement Congressman Jake LaTurner will not seek reelection.

Kansas House Majority Leader Chris Croft issued a statement Thursday, April 18 just hours after LaTurner announced he would not seek another term as the 2nd District Representative for the Sunflower State in Washington D.C.

“I would like to thank everyone for the calls and messages this afternoon encouraging me to run for the newly open Second Congressional District. We need to continue the conservative leadership of Congressman LaTurner and put forward the strongest candidate to win in November.

Republicans need a candidate who has proven they can win the tough battles and has the fundraising prowess to quickly assemble the funds needed to keep this seat in GOP hands.

I have dedicated my life to the public service with 30 years of military service, two deployments tot eh Middle East, and six years in the legislature. Connie and I are prayerfully considering whether or not a run for Congress would be the best way to continue that public service and fight for conservative wins for Kansas.”

Kansas state Senator Jerry Moran also issued a statement on social media regarding the departure of LaTurner.

I am sad to know that come January, Kansans in the second district will no longer be represented by Congressman Jake LaTurner. Jake cares so much about the wellbeing of Kansans and has worked to do what is right for them and all Americans.

LaTurner currently serves the state’s 2nd District in the House of Representatives in Washington D.C. He is in his second term in office.
