Since Euler Finance fell victim to the biggest decentralized finance (DeFi) hack of 2023, The cryptocurrency community has been closely following the $197 million loot via on-chain, hoping to track down the attacker.. Of the series of transfers made by the hacker, one 100 Ether (ETH) transaction was allegedly sent to an address associated with North Korean-linked actors.
The blockchain researcher Chainalysis identified that 100 ETH of Euler’s stolen funds were transferred to an address flagged in a previous hack with ties to North Korea..
100 ETH stolen in Monday’s #euler Finance hack have moved to an address associated with a previous hack carried out by #NorthKorea-linked actors. This may mean the Euler hack is the work of #DPRK too, or could be misdirected by other hackers. We’ll share more details as possible https://t.co/DxvGsc90Z8 pic.twitter.com/5QPphNtyYY

100 ETH stolen in the Euler Finance hack on Monday has been moved to an address associated with a previous hack carried out by actors linked to North Korea. This may mean that the Euler hack is also the work of #DPRK, or it could be a mistake by other hackers. We will share more details when possible.
The hacker also transferred 3,000 ETH to Euler’s deployer account without disclosing his intention.. However, as of this writing, no other transfers had been made after that. In both cases, it was not clear if it was a ploy by the hacker or if he was actually considering accepting Euler Finance’s $20 million bounty.
Although Chainalysis was suspicious of North Korean involvement in the Euler Finance hack, it highlighted the possibility that other hackers were mistaken.
Euler Labs CEO Michael Bentley shared his disgust at the $197 million hack, revealing that ten independent audits carried out over two years ensured its safety.
