German Embassy: Georgia's progress in Open Budget Survey an "impressive achievement"

The Embassy of Germany in Tbilisi has praised Georgia's advancement to the leading spot in the International Budget Partnership’s latest Open Budget Survey as an "impressive achievement", as the country was named the global leader in budget transparency.

In a social media post on Wednesday, the Embassy said the achievement was the result of a series of reforms in the field of public finance.

[The reforms include] improving medium-term planning, introducing programme budgeting, increasing accountability, introducing and improving electronic systems for managing public finances, introducing mechanisms to promote citizen involvement, publishing budget documents, preparing guides for the citizens and other related events", it said.

The diplomatic representation also said on behalf of the German Development Cooperation, the German Society for International Cooperation and other partners supported the Georgian Government in carrying out reforms in the field of public finance management, “especially at the local level".
