In the light of the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks, multiple Norwegian politicians reflected on the 2011 events via Facebook.

The Progress Party’s (FRP) Jon Georg Dale asked questions about the treatment of survivors after July 22.

“In recent weeks, we have heard strong testimonies from those who were and still are affected by the terror. Powerful stories of being left alone, not feeling adequately cared for, and worst of all: being suspected and criticized for having survived the worst terrorist attack in our shared history. Imagine that… our young people had to feel that after such an event. In retrospect, we must ask ourselves how we could let this happen,” the former Minister of Transport and Agriculture wrote on Facebook.

The Socialist Left Party’s (SV) leader Audun Lysbakken warned that we must see July 22 “as what it was.”

“An attack inspired by racist ideas”

“A politically motivated and right-wing extremist attack on the AUF and the Labor Party. An attack inspired by racist ideas and hatred aimed at Muslims,” he wrote on Facebook.

He adds that preparedness is also about fighting ideas that breed violence.

“We as a society must acknowledge that we have not been good enough, neither before nor after July 22,” Minister of Culture Abid Raja (V) wrote on Facebook.

He further added that it was not an act of blind terror, but on the contrary, a very targeted attack that hit Norway on July 22, 2011.

Raja drew parallels between the terrorist’s ideology and the ideology behind the terrorist attack on the Al-Noor mosque in Bærum in 2019.

“We will remember, we will never forget, and we will take the fight against the ideology that breeds evil,” Raja concluded.
