Former UCF kicker De La Haye nominated for social media award

Donald De La Haye has been nominated for a Shorty Award as one of the top sports influencers on social media. 

The former Port St. Lucie High School and University of Central Florida kicker made national headlines this summer when he was ruled ineligible by the NCAA because he wouldn’t stop making monetizing his popular YouTube channel.

De La Haye has more than 517,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel and his videos have been viewed more than 49 million times.

According to its website, “The Shorty Awards honor the best of social media by recognizing the influencers, brands and organizations on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Musically and more.”

The other influencers nominated in the Sports category are NFL players JJ Watt and Richard Sherman, NBA players Kevin Durant and Kristaps Porzingis, tennis player Serena Williams, ESPN personality Jemele Hill, swimmer Katie Ledecky, hockey player Hillary Knight, CrossFit athlete Brooke Ence, former boxer Laila Ali and former Olympic athlete Lolo Jones.

The Shorty Awards will be held April 15 in New York City. People can vote at shortyawards.com.
