World of Outlaws sprint car series driver Jason Johson has died.

According to an industry news release, the 41-year-old died from injuries sustained in a crash at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin Saturday.

During lap 18 of the Jim Boyd Memorial race, Johnson crashed battling for the lead on the backstretch of the third-mile oval. He was airlifted to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

KRCG 13 last covered Johnson in May when he arrived at the World of Outlaws sprint car race at Lake Ozark Speedway.

Johnson, in his three years racing, said it was good to be back home in Missouri.

He said what draws him to sprint car racing is the adrenaline rush. He said a sprint car's high horsepower combined with low weight means an exciting drive.

Johnson resided in Rocky Mount, Missouri. A memorial will be held for him at his JJR Shop at 26733 Highway Y Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited, fans and friends.

Johnson is survived by his wife Bobbi and five-year-old son Jaxx.
