Police: 2 students in Arkansas arrested after threats made via social media; 1 had 'death list'

Two students in Arkansas, including one who had a "death list," have been arrested after making threats online to cause violence, authorities said.

In Conway, police arrested a 15-year-old student after a threat was made via Snapchat to shoot up Conway Junior High School.

The Conway Police Department on Monday night became aware of a social media post regarding a junior high student threatening to carry a shotgun to school. According to a statement, the 15-year-old mentioned shooting a particular student “and Mexicans.”

The case remains under investigation, and authorities do not believe any threat remains.

Conway Junior High said on Facebook that an increased law enforcement presence would be on campus Tuesday.

Also Monday, the Garland County sheriff’s office was notified by the Mountain Pine School District of a possible threat from a high school student.

A “death list” had being circulated on social media by the student, according to a news release. That list was later found in the student’s backpack by a school official, authorities reported.

The sheriff said the student was arrested and faces a charge of first-degree terroristic threatening. An investigation is ongoing.

Additional patrols were set Tuesday at the Mountain Pine School District as a precaution.

More than 10 threats have been reported at Arkansas schools since a shooting Wednesday at a Florida high school left 17 people dead. And on Monday, a 17-year-old student was arrested after the North Little Rock School District received its second threat via social media in four days.
