A pair of Wisconsin women’s basketball seniors plan to stay in Madison one more season.
Both Halle Douglass and Natalie Leuzinger will be return for a fifth season the team announced on social media Friday.
Brooke Schramek is set to graduate, while redshirt sophomore Sacia Vanderpool, who is graduating early, announced Thursday that she is transferring to North Dakota State .
It previously was announced Douglass would be return after missing the majority of the 2022-23 season due a torn left anterior cruciate ligament.
Leuzinger, a Monroe native, took on an increased role this season. The 5-foot-8 guard appeared in a career-high 32 games, including 29 starts, while averaging 29.7 minutes, which nearly quadrupled her 9.8 minutes from the previous season.
She averaged a career-high 7.7 points while adding three rebounds and 1.6 assists per game to go with 20 steals. Leuzinger scored in double figures 11 times, including a career-high 18 points in Wisconsin’s 79-55 loss to Purdue on Feb. 25.
Douglass slowly worked her way back into the Badgers lineup over the course of the season after returning from a torn ACL just five games into her junior season. The Lake Forest, Illinois, native appeared in 25 games, including five stars, averaging 20.6 minutes per game.
She made her season debut in the Badgers’ 59-51 loss to Butler. The 6-2 guard scored a season-high nine points twice, including in a 73-62 win over Rutgers on Jan. 27.
Douglass averaged 3.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists as Wisconsin finished the season 15-17 overall, including 6-12 in Big Ten Conference play, its best record since 2018-19.
