(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Among those awaiting a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on a bribery case it heard this week are attorneys for former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan.

The case before the high court is a challenge to the bribery conviction of former Portage, Indiana Mayor James Snyder, who took $13,000 from a company after he had chosen it for a city contract.

Justices questioned the attorney for the government about the limits of what’s a gratuity for a job well done and what’s a corrupt payment.

Federal prosecutors say the statute Snyder was prosecuted under only applies to a handful of the charges against Madigan, and the judge has delayed his trial until October.

Federal justices are expected to rule in June.
