The family said its 15-year-old son took his own life after being bullied, and now an investigation into his death is underway.
The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said they are investigating the Dec. 4 death of Connor Tronerud, of Sutton, who was a student at Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson, Conn.
Connor committed suicide on Dec. 4, and in his obituary published in the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, his family said his death was a result of bullying.
“At home, Connor could most commonly be found "chillaxing" in his room with his iPad, Nintendo, and peanut butter cookies,” his obituary read. “He enjoyed going on hikes with his father; he looked to his mother for support as a confidant. He didn't hesitate to ask his brother to borrow his credit card for online shopping.”
The obituary said Connor was an excellent student, graduating with the highest GPA in school history at Our Lady of Angels in Worcester and secured a spot in the National Junior Honor Society. He also earned honors every quarter while attending Marianapolis Prep, an independent day and boarding school in northeast Connecticut.
In a GoFundMe page in his honor to raise funds for bullying advocacy, the page said Connor “had many spaces in which he felt safe and nurtured; others -- including social media -- proved overwhelming.”
Rev. Dan Mulcahy, the pastor of Connor’s parish at Our Lady of Assumption in Millbury, Massachusetts said the bullying was online.
“He had been bullied and it was online,” Mulcahy said. “As it would anybody, it really affected him.”
The fundraiser was posted three days after his death and has raised over $13,000.
No other information about the investigation into Connor’s death has been released at this time.
